600 years anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald – one of the most significant battles in Medieval Europe and the event of great importance to the history of Lithuania will be celebrated on June 15th, 2010. To commemorate this historical anniversary Lithuanian State Department of Tourism presents the travel project “Grunwald Travel Marathon”.

A big 5 people family’s participation in the Grunwald Battle Travel Marathon was very original. All the members of the family travelled around Lithuania wearing a T-shirt specially made for this project. The parent emphasized that such travelling around the motherland nurtures the feelings of patriotism, public spirit of their children and teaches them to love their homeland.

President Dalia Grybauskaitė, together with Polish President-elect Bronisław Komorowski and prominent Polish state and public figures, took part in the festive celebration of the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald (Žalgiris).

The organizers of “Grunwald Battle Travel Marathon” announce that the winner of interim prize is 71 year old Mr. Algimantas Pranskunas.

Lithuania is commemorating Statehood Day, the coronation day of King Mindaugas.

2010 is an exceptional year, since mid-July marks the 600th anniversary of the victory of the Polish and Lithuanian armies over the Teutonic Order. This is an occasion for a grand scale re-enactment (17 July 2010) and accompanying events – marching parades, concerts, festivities and mock battles.

During the celebrations of the 600th anniversary of the battle of Grunwald, for the first time the role of Witold the Great will be played by a Lithuanian representative.

The project „Lithuania – Poland Travel Marathon to Commemorate 600th Anniversary of the Grunwald Battle“ of the Lithuanian State Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy has started in the Gothic Hall of the National Museum – The Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuanian with the sounds of flute and marching orderlies of the Middle Ages.
